As of September 1, 2006 the four inside IBEW Locals in Colorado entered into a Mountain Agreement Memorandum of Understanding for select counties in the mountain resorts areas.
These counties are: Chaffee, Eagle, Lake, Park, Pitkin, Routt, Summit, Jackson, Grand, Clear Creek, Gilpin, Gunnison, Teller, San Miguel, Archuleta and La Plata.
This will be for all work bid after September 1, 2006 and this does not include industrial projects.
The spirit of this agreement is to make it easier for Contractors to come into the area and bid work, they will have a little more security between Locals. The overtime after 40 hrs. is with mixed feelings, there is as many members that like it as those that don’t.
The members that live in the mountains don’t have the luxury of taking 2 hrs. before or after work to schedule an appointment and they like it so they don’t have to lose a whole days pay in a week. The mountain members prefer having a less structured work week.
At present we are trying to promote more Contractor participation in the mountains. The goal is to make the contract user friendly and create a mountain work force.
We would hope to end up with a bigger piece of the market share and in turn be able to get some zone pay or subsistence.
This Mountain Agreement Memorandum is a project that has been worked on by several administrations in the past and an agreement by not one Business Manager but all four Business Managers in the State of Colorado along with all the NECA Chapter Managers and many Contractors from the different jurisdictions.
